Well, what a fantastically lively and busy day it was! These shots are taken from the TV show Perfect!, which was shown earlier this year on the Good Food Channel. The show features two chefs, cooking similar dishes which are then judged and scored by the guest judges. The format is not as cut-throat as shows like Hell’s Kitchen on Channel 4; after all it started out as a feature on Saturday Kitchen which provides a light start to the weekend.
The show is quite chatty and the chefs like to compare notes based on their experience. In this episode the theme was ‘Asian Banquet’ and I was invited to be a judge. The two chefs competing on the day were Ching-He Huang, Chinese culinary expert and Nic Watt who is head chef at Roca. Guessing who had cooked which dish is all part of the mystery.
The dish of the day for me; was Nic’s marinated lamb chop with Miso cooked to succulent perfection. It was interesting to see Shabu Shabu on the menu too, a dish I am thinking of putting on a menu for one of my future Japanese supper clubs.
I had a great time on the day, keeping a straigh tface during the obligatory walk towards camera shot; was hard! Sharing notes and tasting the food was fun alongside David Tse Ka-Shing and Lucy Marshall who were astute judges. Look out for the show which is repeated on the Good Food Channel from time to time. Watch this space as I do have some exciting events and announcements lined up during the next few months.
